My career has always centered on helping others. As a nonprofit professional and organizational leader, I am dedicated to maximizing the impact organizations have in the communities they serve. With extensive experience guiding and directing programs and institutions, I have developed a strong foundation in management, financial oversight, team and board leadership, fund development, and community engagement. While I am skilled as a strategist, administrator, and communicator, I pride myself most on approaching work with compassion and a commitment to serving in practical, mission‑focused ways. This blend of experience and genuine passion for helping communities thrive uniquely positions me to support organizations and the leaders who guide them.
In 2022, I founded Carson Dean Consulting, LLC with a commitment to pairing strategic thinking with practical applications to help organizations flourish. My values—rooted in relationships, simplicity, equity and inclusion, intentional communication, integrity, and accountability—shape every engagement. Today, our portfolio includes thriving nonprofits, churches, and local governments across North Carolina and southeastern Virginia, each benefiting from a tailored, mission‑aligned approach.
Beyond my professional work, I am a husband, proud father, and lifelong North Carolinian. My family lives in Gaston County, just across the street from where my wife grew up and where her mother still resides. We are active members of First Baptist Church in Mount Holly and enjoy spending time in both the mountains and along the coast. I am a graduate of N.C. State University (BA, History) and Appalachian State University (MA, History), and I hold a certificate in nonprofit management from Duke University. I am also an alumnus of the Institute for Philanthropic Leadership’s Charlotte Leadership Gift School (inaugural class) and Bank of America’s Charitable Foundation Neighborhood Builder Program. Before retiring in 2016, I served as executive director of the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, now known as Roof Above.
