The Word for 2016 is…? Retention, Retention, Retention

It’s early January. The fast-paced holidays, which were a welcome break from our fast-paced lives, are a fading memory.

The mad rush of the holidays are upon us and nonprofits are busy with end of year giving, wrapping up projects and planning for the New Year.

The community has been great to Boys & Girls Clubs in Wake County. Our Clubs have been filled with volunteers, our financial goals have been met and our partners endured the dozens of communications we sent over a two week period.

I woke up on Tuesday this week wondering how the non-profit sector’s attempt to cash in on the first week of the holiday gift giving season would go this year.

“Nonprofits not tapping staff for senior posts” is the title of a recent blog post by Philanthropy North Carolina’s Todd Cohen.

The number of nonprofits in North Carolina is growing by leaps and bounds. Some have effective boards and some boards are just names on the letterhead.

Strategic Planning.Just the words make some people sigh, while others clap, grinning ear to ear.

Donors want measured impact, not just a statement of organizational goals and activities. They want to know that what an organization does matters.
