What Is Needed Now

Katie Weeks
Senior Advisor and Interim Management Coordinator

As I look at my screen today, there are many colorful Post-It notes reminding me of things I want to remember…

“I am beautiful, strong, hopeful and I trust the process.”

“It’s not a project it is a partnership.”

“I am well; my body is well.”

But the one that is really resonating with me right now simply asks “What is needed now?”

At Armstrong McGuire, we often support organizations by focusing on the big-picture and long-term strategic goals. These are essential, and needed, but there are also moments when we need to pause, take a deep breath, and simply ask, “what is needed now?” This question grounds us, brings us back to the present and reminds us to respond to what this moment needs.

This week, our Positive Intelligence theme centered around empathy, especially empathy for ourselves. Our cohorts considered what it means to reconnect with the essence of who we were before life’s challenges and responsibilities came along.

Each participant reflected on childhood photos, remembering the qualities of who they were as a child: I am carefree and creative. I am curious, kind, and observant. I am joyful and resilient. I am love and forgiveness. I am caring and brave. I am joy.

The invitation was simple but profound: bring more of that childhood essence into your life today. Imagine what would be possible if you leaned into your creativity, your curiosity, your joy, and your resilience? How would that change how you show up for yourself and others? Could it bring you closer to the life that you truly want to lead?

So, I’m asking myself, “what is needed now?” Sometimes the answer is as simple as a nap or a snack. Other times, it is an invitation to be that carefree, curious, joyful, resilient person I’ve always been.

If you or your team need help to discern what you need now, we are here. Armstrong McGuire offers several coaching options, including:

  • One-on-One Coaching, which provides a personal space to slow down, set goals, and manage stress with a focus on what matters most.
  • Group Coaching, where people with similar goals come together to share ideas, build connections, and foster a culture of trust and accountability.
Assessments like DISC and Driving Forces, which uncover unique behaviors and motivations, helping individuals and teams understand and leverage each other's strengths.
  • Positive Intelligence (PI), a seven-week program focused on shifting mindsets by reducing negative self-talk and cultivating empathy, creativity, and resilience.
