For nearly 18 months, Senior Advisor David Middleton has served as the interim CEO of Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte with a focus on helping the organization return to financial stability. Last month as reported by the Charlotte Ledger, Middleton announced to residents that the community will affiliate with Asheville-based retirement community nonprofit Givens Communities later this year. This is a big step forward in Aldersgate's long-term stability.

"David’s engagement with Aldersgate has been successful largely through building positive relationships with Resident Leadership and with state regulators. Restoring trust of residents has been a key factor. He stepped into a very complex situation created by years of poor management and on the verge of insolvency. So it took awhile to solve problems on many fronts. Affiliation is the right solution for Aldersgate. Thanks to David for leading us here," Paul Johnson, former Aldersgate Resident Association President.

Guiding Aldersgate through an affiliation has required corporate structural/bylaws changes, reductions in force, leadership team restructuring, regaining residents’ trust, handling media, task forces, bondholder relations, legal challenges, real estate issues, community partnerships, and now due diligence leading to the destination. The leadership teams at Aldersgate and Givens are outstanding and deeply committed to residents and the communities, and I look forward to seeing a bright future for Aldersgate as the hub of east Charlotte.”
