Professional Troublemaking

Speaking out about unjust conditions – to friends, family, on social media – is the American way. Pointing to unfair treatment of individuals, groups, communities, or the environment is an important part of being civically engaged. As a nonprofit leader there is an added obligation to not just speak out, but to advocate and effect change in policy and systems.

What nonprofits can learn from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

Those who know me well know that I’m a bit of a political junky, especially around the presidential election season that rolls around every four years. During these days between political conventions and the November 8th election I find myself glued to the debates like they are playoff games before the Super Bowl. I stay up late at night flipping between CNN and Fox News to hear the spin on the sometimes silly and sometimes stupid news about the latest tweets, taxes and emails - noise that distracts us from what matters most.

Understanding Millennials

There are opinions galore about millennials just as there have been about past “gens.” Defined as those born between 1980 and 2000, millennials want, and demand meaning from their work. They shun the rat race. They aren’t driven to amass the money, or what it buys, in the same way or to the same degree as their parents.
